Wednesday Evenings

Newcomers are more than welcome - we paddle on Wednesday evenings as follows:

Late September to early April is at Westhoughton pool. There are two sessions available - 8.30 to 9.15 for coaching or 9.15 to 10.00 for more advanced paddlers to practise strokes, rolling etc. It costs £5 per session to paddle, and places must be booked through the pool booking system for the first session.  The first session will be used to coach and assess paddlepower awards for the under 16's and up to BCU 2 star level for adult paddlers. Non members, please contact the club via email for booking pool sessions.

Early April to Late September, we paddle outdoors at Burrs Country Park, Bury. NB: There will be occasions throughout the summer months, when we will paddle an alternative venue - please keep an eye on the forum, or contact a committee member if in any doubt. We usually meet up at 6.30pm, and outdoor coaching is free of charge (£5 if you need to borrow a boat / kit); changing facilities are available with showers (20p).

Again, please contact the club via email by the previous Sunday if you wish to attend any outdoor meets.

If you have booked with us but can't attend, please contact the club as soon as possible, as committee members need to transport boats and kit to Wednesday night paddles (no kit is kept on site at Burrs).

Weekend meetings

The club try to arrange at least 2 meetings per month - one aimed at novices and one aimed at more advanced paddlers. Please keep an eye on the forum for latest developments as plans can change at the last minute! There are also other events arranged during the month, again keep an eye on the forum

Club trips are aimed at different levels of paddling ability - speak to the organiser of a trip if you’re not sure of its suitability for yourself. For weekend events, please see Dave Wray (westhoughtoncc.events@yahoo.co.uk) or any committee member for more information.

NB: As we’re a small club, it won’t always be possible to cover all moving water events with a coach or leader who holds the “official” qualifications to lead the trip as deemed appropriate by the BCU, although for designated club trips the leader will always have suitable experience and ability.

Bearing this in mind, and while you can and should take advice, in all cases it is your own decision as to whether you participate in any particular event.
